Why does all the best music research in the world not make you the best radio station in the world?
Could it be that the more perfect you get, the less attractive you become?
Consider movies: It’s the flawed hero that moves us most. Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man is a bookish nerd with marginal social skills. His limitations are what allow us to connect with him.
What are your station’s “edges”? Why are you intent on smoothing them out?
This is one of the key reasons I’m against the so-called “granular” interpretation of Arbitron ratings data – either from diaries or meters. “Granular” doesn’t equal “great.”
The point’s well made in this piece from Ageless Marketing.
